Year 7 Science - Faraday Challenge

Fullhurst hosted the Institute of Engineering and Technology’s Faraday Challenge on the 3 April.  36 year 7 pupils were challenged to design and make a rocket and a means of transporting it three metres to the launch site. The judging criteria took into account all factors of the competition: Planning, Creativity, Accountancy, Teamwork, Presentation, and Function.

Congratulations to the winning team of Cora, Maciej, Emily, Alex and Jakub, and also to Sophie who was awarded a special prize for outstanding quality of work throughout the day.

Rebecca from the IET came to the School and challenged 36 Year 7 pupils to design and make a rocket and a means of transporting it 3 metres to the launch site. Everybody worked incredibly hard, exploring electrical circuits, gear ratios, and forces to arrive at their final design. The “shop” was open for the purchase of components as each team started with a fixed amount of money.

Judging took place at about 2.00 pm and Rebecca had an extremely hard job with this, the first three teams only having a point between them, and only four points separating the remaining three teams. The judging criteria took into account all factors of the competition: Planning, Creativity, Accountancy, Teamwork, Presentation, and Function.

Each winner walked away with Amazon vouchers worth £20.00 and a plaque which will go into the School Trophy Cabinet.
