Year 7
In year 7, all students study the formal elements of Art, developing an understanding of colour theory and how artists use colour in their work. Students practise their basic drawing skills through developing their use of proportion and perspective, as well as shading and mark making. This is shown through their still life drawings, artist studies, portraits, base line test, as well as homework tasks.
As an extension of the formal elements project, students in year 7 have also been introduced to different materials and processes. This project aims to extend their learning of colour, line, shape and pattern whilst introducing students to alternative materials and processes. Students are introduced to different artists’ work throughout the project. They have been looking at shape and negative space by creating black and white leaf stencil monoprints, Japanese Notan art as well as Matisse inspired collages. Students have further developed their understanding of colour and shape by exploring the work of Sonia Delauney. Working in pairs, they have created their own mixed media work. Lastly, in order to experiment with mark making and texture, students have created Sgraffito art, based on the work of Paul Klee.
