Fullhurst Community College

We aim to offer students a varied and practical approach to the study of music.  We aim to give students a positive experience of music and to challenge them to progress and develop their musical skills through performing, composing, listening and appraising.

Key Stage 3

The KS3 curriculum enables pupils to develop a range of desirable personal qualities and skills such as perseverance, concentration, initiative, confidence, individual and group sensitivity.  Students have the opportunity to learn a number of instruments.  The KS3 curriculum combines listening, appraising, performance, composition and music technology to engage students from the very first lesson and to lay a solid foundation for those students who may wish to study Music at a higher level.

Key Stage 4

At KS4 our students are following a course written by Rock School Ltd.  There is a big focus on students improving from whatever starting point they have, and a flexibility which allows students to focus on one of two directions:

  • Performing
Students produce solo or ensemble performances which are recorded throughout the course, on any instrument and in a style set by a task.
  • Composing
Students produce multiple compositions based on a set task or theme.  Students use music technology to complete this unit and all work is recorded throughout the course.

Extra-curricular information

Our Music department contributes to the college’s diverse programme of extracurricular activities by providing comprehensive extracurricular provision, during the lunch hour and after school.   The range of music activities on offer this term can be viewed on the Extra-curricular activities page.
