Year 8 boys football match report vs Samworth Tudor Grange - 10.10.17

On Tuesday 10 October, the Year 8 football team were taken to New College Leicester for their second league fixture against Samworth Tudor Grange School.  Fresh off the training pitch from the previous evening, Fullhurst were ready and raring to go and win the game. Blaike captained the side for this fixture after impressing in the previous fixture.

Similar to the previous fixture between the two sides Fullhurst started the game very brightly, flooding forwards and piling the pressure on Samworth’s defence.  Manase was once again sensational in the middle of the park, distributing the ball into space out wide for the Fullhurst wingers to worry Samworth’s fullbacks. The early pressure from Fullhurst paid off as they took a 1-0 lead through a neat finish from Oliver who scored his second goal in as many games. Fullhurst should have perhaps extended the lead further as an acrobatic effort from Fletcher rattled the woodwork. Similar to the previous game Fullhurst relaxed and ultimately paid the price as Samworth equalised with their first real venture into the Fullhurst half.  Failure to clear their lines gifted the ball to the Samworth striker who neatly finished past Luca. Late in the half a brilliant delivery into the box resulted in Fletcher nodding in for Fullhurst to take a 2-1 lead into half time.

Score at half-time: Samworth Tudor Grange 1-2 Fullhurst Community College

Despite taking the lead late in the first half a motivational team talk at half time was required, and Mr Fearn asked the boys to clear the ball at the first opportunity if there was any danger, whilst urging for a little more composure in the final third to kill the game off.  Midway through the second half Samworth exploited the gaps in Fullhurst’s defence and grabbed a well-deserved equaliser from some brilliant play in midfield, a neat through ball played through the middle gave Samworth’s striker the perfect opportunity to slot the ball home.  Fullhurst pushed for a winner late on in the second half, forcing a string of brilliant saves from Samworth’s keeper as well as spurning a number of clear opportunities.

Final result: Samworth Tudor Grange 2-2 Fullhurst Community College

Man of the match: Blaike (C)

This result also means that Fullhurst are top of their group and will progress through to the next round to play the winners of Group A. Well done boys!!!!
