Curriculum Intent

This course gives students an understanding of the Hair and beauty industry in preparation for further education & working in industry, and as potential users of hairdressing or beauty outlets.

Year 10 Curriculum

Students complete two units in year 10:

Unit UV21582 – Hair and beauty science

Students learn about how a range of different beauty products are formulated and the effects they can have on the hair or skin. This is important for students to know as users and consumers of beauty products.

UV21579 Project unit

Students will experience researching a specific topic, and writing and presenting their research project. They will be able to use some of their learning about different types of products and consumers within their research.

Year 11 Curriculum

Students complete two units in year 11:

Unit UV21583 – Responding to a hair and beauty design brief

This unit includes creating a mood board and a practical re-creation of a chosen style, including hair, make-up, nails and fashion. This unit helps to secure students’ understanding of how designs are created. Students will draw on their understanding about different products and clients’ needs and requirements when devising a design.

Unit UV21578 – Understanding the hair and beauty sector.

This unit will develop learners’ understanding of the businesses that make up the hair and beauty sector and the products, services and treatments offered.

Travel and Tourism
 

You will study three mandatory units, covering the skills required to work in the industry:

  • UK travel and tourism sector
  • UK travel and tourism destinations
  • the travel and tourism customer experience

We will choose one further unit from:

  • international travel and tourism destinations
  • factors affecting worldwide travel and tourism

This qualification introduces you to the world of travel and tourism giving you the opportunity to develop the skills required. You will explore some of the key areas within the sector, including accommodation, tourism development and promotion, transport and visitor attractions. You will investigate the importance of the travel and tourism to the UK.

You will carry out tasks/assignments throughout the course for each unit. Your teacher will assess and mark these and so you will receive a grade and feedback on how you are getting on.

Progression to further study this sector at level 3 through a vocational qualification such as a BTEC National in Travel and Tourism, or an apprenticeship in either travel and tourism or hospitality. Leading to a role within the travel or hospitality industries.

Calculated over 4 units –

-              4 units (3 mandatory)

-              they have equal weighting of 25%

-              Is one an exam and others coursework

-              Grading overall ranges from L1 P to LD2
