Year 9 Newark Air Museum Trip

Our Year 9 students recently embarked on a fascinating trip to the Newark Air Museum, where they explored the rich history of flight and its role in shaping the modern world!

The visit combined both self-guided and facilitated tours, offering a hands-on, immersive experience that brought their classroom learning to life.

The day began with a focus on World War II, where students learned about the evacuation of a schoolboy from Sheffield to nearby Balderton in September 1939. Set in the evocative surroundings of the Dambusters Hut, this session gave students a powerful insight into the wartime experiences of young people just like them.

Students also explored the broader topic of aircraft and helicopters as methods of transportation. The facilitated sessions, held in dynamic spaces like Hangar 2, allowed students to get up close to some of the museum’s larger aircraft—and even step inside a helicopter or plane, sparking lots of curiosity and excitement.

Throughout the day, pupils demonstrated great interest and enthusiasm, asking thoughtful questions and engaging deeply with the exhibits. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect history and science in a real-world setting.

Thank you to the Newark Air Museum team for providing such an enriching experience, and well done to Year 9 for being such excellent ambassadors for our school!
