An Inspiring Assembly with Ray Douglas

We were delighted to welcome Ray into school today as part of our ongoing Safeguarding Week programme. Ray delivered his powerful and thought-provoking assembly entitled “Blaming, Gaming, Shaming”—a session designed to get pupils thinking deeply about the choices they make, the impact of their words and actions, and how we can all play a part in creating a kinder, safer community.
The assembly explored important themes around:
-
Blaming: understanding how shifting responsibility onto others prevents us from learning and growing.
-
Gaming: recognising the role of competition, peer pressure, and risk-taking—both online and offline—and how these can sometimes escalate into unsafe behaviours.
-
Shaming: challenging the culture of putting others down, whether face-to-face or through social media, and building empathy and respect instead.
Ray’s delivery was engaging, honest, and filled with real-life stories and scenarios that helped pupils connect the key messages to their own experiences. It was inspiring to see students reflect, ask questions, and think critically about how they can make positive changes in their daily lives.
Safeguarding Week is all about giving our pupils the knowledge, confidence, and resilience they need to stay safe and support one another. Ray’s assembly was a brilliant contribution to this aim, and we are so grateful to him for taking the time to be with us.
