Careers Weeks

Year 7 students participate in set careers weeks in November, March, and June, which include a variety of events, activities, workshops, and assemblies delivered by the Careers Team (VA, AG & LA), employers and further education providers.

This will include, but is not limited to:

Speed Networking 

All year 7 students take part in a speed networking event, coming into contact with and speaking to a range of employers including alumni, where possible, to find out what is involved in a particular job, and the path that person took to get into their chosen career.

Careers Safari

All year 7 students take part in a carousel of employer-led workshops, exploring workplace skills and job roles, and completing practical employer-set tasks. This helps students to build employability skills, find out what is involved in a particular job, and the expanding student’s knowledge on different job roles.

Workplace Skills Experience

Year 7 students take part in a full-day, employer-led workshop designed to develop and strengthen their employability skills while making meaningful links to the wider curriculum. Through engaging activities and discussions, students explore the skills, qualities, and experiences required for different job roles, while expanding their understanding of a range of careers and future opportunities.

PSHE Lessons 

All year 7 students will take part in structured careers focused PSHE lessons, delivered by their PSHE teachers, that teach them about different careers, pathways, employability skills, and Local Market Information (LMI).

 National Careers Week

Students participate in careers related activities and competitions throughout the week. Posters are put up around the school that create awareness of National Careers Week, different careers and pathways, and linking careers to subjects in the curriculum.

National Apprenticeship Week

Students participate in careers related activities and competitions throughout the week. Posters are put up around the school that create awareness of National Apprenticeship Week, and linking subjects to the curriculum. Students will also receive employer led assemblies throughout the week, to learn more about apprenticeships and what they are.

Unifrog

All students have access to Unifrog, an online and interactive careers platform designed to support students in exploring future opportunities, pathways, and career options. Students are encouraged to engage with Unifrog throughout the academic year, using its range of tools and resources to support their knowledge of careers.

Students are introduced to the different features available on the platform, and the Careers Team regularly shares relevant resources and guidance to help students make the most of the opportunities available.

Year 7 students and their parents/carers have the opportunity to attend the annual Careers Fair, where they can engage with employers, further and higher education providers, and the Careers Team. The event provides students with the opportunity to ask questions, explore different career pathways, and gain valuable insight into the range of options available to them for their future.

Work Experience Day

Year 8 students participate in an employer-led workshop where they are challenged with a real-world task that requires collaboration, problem-solving, and effective communication. Throughout the session, students have the opportunity to engage directly with employers, asking questions about their career journeys, job roles, and the skills and qualities needed to succeed in the workplace. This experience provides students with valuable insight into the world of work, helping them to understand the expectations of different careers while developing the transferable skills needed for future success.

Barclays Workplace Challenge

Year 8 students take part in an interactive activity delivered through Barclay’s LifeSkills programme, designed to develop key employability skills including resilience, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. Through engaging with realistic workplace scenarios, students have the opportunity to practice applying these skills in real-world situations and gain a greater understanding of the skills and behaviours valued by employers.

Year 8 University Day

Students will participate in an employability skills workshop delivered by a further education provider, designed to raise aspirations, develop key workplace skills, and increase awareness of future education and training opportunities, including higher education pathways.

Subjects to Futures Day

Year 9 students take part in a range of careers-focused sessions that explore the links between different career pathways and their GCSE subject choices. These sessions help students understand how the knowledge and skills developed within each subject can support future opportunities, while highlighting the relevance of their studies beyond the classroom.

Students are encouraged to consider how their subject choices can align with their interests, strengths, and long-term goals, supporting them in making informed decisions about their future education, training, and career pathways.

Work Experience Preparation Day

A work experience assembly, delivered by LEBC, introduces Year 9 students to the work experience programme and provides an overview of what work experience involves and how they can successfully participate.

This is followed by a series of structured sessions throughout the day, designed to support students in beginning the application process and preparing for their placement. Students develop an understanding of how to research and select suitable placements and begin to understand workplace expectations.

All Year 9 students receive personalised guidance from members of the Careers Team (AG & LA) to support them in understanding the GCSE subject options available and making informed choices about the subjects most suited to their interests, strengths, and future aspirations.

Students attend an options assembly led by the Careers Leader (AG), which explains the different pathways available, the GCSE choices they can make, and how these decisions may influence future education, training, and career opportunities.

The Careers Leader (AG) also attends the Year 9 Options Evening to provide advice and guidance to students and parents/carers, supporting them in making informed decisions about their next steps.

Work Experience Preparation Day

Students will take part in a series of structured sessions throughout the day to help them prepare for their work experience placements. These sessions will cover key areas such as understanding workplace expectations, developing reflection logs, professional workplace etiquette, and planning travel arrangements. Students will explore the value and importance of work experience, gaining an understanding of how to make the most of their placement and how the skills, knowledge, and experiences they gain can support their future education, training, and career pathways.

Pathways Day

Year 10 students take part in a series of talks delivered by former Fullhurst alumni, who share their personal experiences and journeys beyond secondary school. Alumni discuss their post-16 pathways, further education, higher education experiences, and career journeys, providing students with valuable insight into the range of options available after GCSEs. These sessions aim to inspire and raise aspirations by showing students the different routes they can take and the opportunities available to them. Students have the opportunity to ask questions, gain advice, and learn from the experiences of those who have previously followed similar pathways.

University Campus Visit

All Year 10 students have the opportunity to visit a higher education campus, providing them with first-hand experience of university life and future progression opportunities. During these visits, students take part in campus tours, explore the facilities, learn about student life, and gain insight into the different pathways available after post-16 education.

Visits include a range of higher education providers, such as Birmingham City University, Loughborough University, and De Montfort University, helping students to broaden their understanding of higher education and consider the opportunities available to them in the future.

Work Experience Parent Information Evening

Parents/carers of Year 10 students are invited to attend an after-school session at Fullhurst, where they can speak with a member of the Careers Team to discuss any questions, concerns, or support they may need regarding work experience.

Further details about the event will be shared following additional planning during the 2026/2027 academic year.

Work Experience

All Year 10 students are given the opportunity to participate in a two-week work experience placement, where they spend time within an employer’s workplace and gain first-hand insight into the world of work. During their placement, students take on a workplace role, allowing them to develop new skills, experience professional environments, and understand the expectations and responsibilities associated with different careers. Work experience provides students with the opportunity to apply their employability skills, build confidence, and reflect on their strengths and interests while gaining valuable experience that can support their future education, training, and career decisions.

All Year 10 students have the opportunity to take part in a one-to-one guidance meeting with an impartial Careers Advisor from LEBC. These personalised sessions provide students with dedicated time to discuss their future aspirations, interests, and goals, while exploring the different pathways available to them. The Careers Advisor supports students in making informed decisions about their next steps, including post-16 options, further education, training, and potential career routes. Students receive tailored advice and guidance to help them understand the opportunities available and identify the steps they can take to achieve their future ambitions.

Post-16 Parents’ Information Evening

Year 11 students and their parents/carers have the opportunity to attend an after-school session focused on exploring post-16 pathways and the application process for colleges through PS16. The session, delivered by the Careers Leader (AG), provides guidance on the different options available after GCSEs and supports students and families in understanding the steps involved in making successful applications.

A range of resources will be available for students and parents/carers to take away, and members of the Careers Team will be present throughout the event to provide further advice, answer questions, and offer support with future decisions.

Future Ready Day

All Year 11 students participate in a series of focused sessions designed to support and prepare them for their next steps beyond secondary school. These sessions cover key areas such as mock interviews, CV writing, creating cover letters, completing job applications, planning routes to college, and successfully submitting post-16 applications.

Throughout these sessions, members of the Careers Team (AG and LA) are available to provide individual support, guidance, and advice to students who require further assistance in exploring their post-16 pathways and making informed decisions about their future.

Apprenticeship Day and Parent’s Information Evening

Year 11 students have the valuable opportunity to attend an apprenticeship fair, providing them with the chance to explore a wide range of career pathways and engage directly with apprenticeship providers from different industries. During the event, students can network with employers, ask questions about available opportunities, and gain a better understanding of the skills, qualifications, and experiences required to successfully secure an apprenticeship.

In addition, students are able to attend informative talks focused on the apprenticeship application process. These sessions provide guidance on how to search for suitable opportunities, complete applications effectively, prepare for interviews, and develop the confidence needed to take the next steps towards their future careers.

 Alongside this, students and their parents/carers are invited to attend an after-school apprenticeship information evening. This event includes a presentation from the Careers Leader (AG), offering valuable advice and guidance on the apprenticeship pathway, the application process, and key considerations when making future career decisions. Attendees receive helpful take-home resources and have the opportunity to ask questions, seek personalised advice, and gain a clearer understanding of how to support a successful apprenticeship application.
