Amnesty International Youth Group

On Wednesday 9th July, we were honoured to welcome Professor George Lewis from the University of Leicester to Fullhurst Community College, where he presented a special plaque to our Amnesty International Youth Group in recognition of their outstanding contribution to social justice.

Back in December, our youth group nominated three local individuals for the University’s new Social Justice Plaque Scheme. Their nominations reflected Fullhurst’s core values of Respect, Kindness, Determination, and Unity, and celebrated those who have made an inspirational impact on promoting social justice within our community.

We were proud to announce that their chosen nominee, Agnes Nisbett, was selected. Agnes, a pioneering midwife in Leicestershire, founded the Born Whilst Sleeping programme at Leicester Royal Infirmary, inspired by her personal experience of stillbirth. Her compassionate work has made a lasting difference in maternity care across the region.

The presentation included a moving talk from our youth group, followed by refreshments.

It was a truly special moment for the school, and we are incredibly proud of the group for their thoughtful and inspiring advocacy for social justice.
