Safeguarding Week 2

This term, we held our second Safeguarding Week of the year which focused on Child Criminal Exploitation (CCE) - linking to themes such as Knife Crime, County Lines, Cuckooing, and Financial Exploitation.

The purpose of our Safeguarding Weeks is to raise awareness of key societal issues that directly impact our students, as well as young people nationally. Throughout the week, curriculum time was dedicated to delivering a broad and engaging programme designed to inform, educate, and encourage reflection.

All tutor groups explored content around CCE, Knife Crime, County Lines, Cuckooing, and Financial Exploitation, helping students to understand the dangers associated with certain social influences and to consider how these risks can affect both themselves and their families.

Students in Years 8, 10, and 11 attended a powerful production titled County Lines, which explored the real-life impact of criminal exploitation. Meanwhile, specified bands in Years 7, 8, and 9 took part in a mock knife crime trial, delivered by Magistrates in the Community, giving them a hands-on insight into how the justice system responds to such offences.

In addition, all students participated in a Knife Crime-focused PSD lesson, reinforcing key messages about safety, decision-making and responsibility. Selected students from each year group also took part in a one-hour workshop with CSO Jo Burton, where they discussed the realities of CCE and Knife Crime in more depth.

Overall, the week proved to be both informative and thought-provoking, equipping our students with greater awareness and understanding of the challenges young people may face and the importance of making safe, informed choices.
