Earlier this year, the University of Leicester invited Fullhurst Community College’s Amnesty International group to take part in a thought-provoking project exploring who we celebrate in history - and why.
Working in small groups, our students were challenged to research and highlight an individual from a diverse background whose story or achievements deserve greater recognition. After careful consideration, the group chose to celebrate Agnes Nisbett for her remarkable work supporting parents who have experienced stillbirth. Agnes played a vital role in establishing the ‘Born Whilst Sleeping’ programme at Leicester Royal Infirmary, offering compassion, guidance, and hope to families during incredibly difficult times.
To honour Agnes’s legacy, our students presented their research and shared her inspiring story. We were delighted that ITV attended to film the event on Friday 17th October 2025, showcasing the students’ thoughtful work and the impact of the project.
This collaboration encouraged our students to reflect deeply on representation, empathy, and the importance of amplifying voices that history too often overlooks - values that lie at the heart of both Amnesty International and Fullhurst Community College.
