Curriculum
At Fullhurst Community College, we offer a broad and balanced curriculum in order to develop confident, responsible and successful young people who have a developed understanding of the world around them. We are proud of our unique context and the richness this brings to our curriculum offer, which is designed especially to meet the needs of our students. Our students learn a broad selection of subjects in order to allow them to reach their aspirations and fulfil their ambitions, whatever they may be. The curriculum they follow also exposes them to varied ideas, diverse cultures and important parts of our heritage that they may not have encountered before so they can play an active role in society as informed, tolerant and responsible citizens
Our curriculum in each subject area is carefully planned, ambitious and well sequenced to support students to build up their knowledge and skills from year 7 up to year 11. Subjects aim to cultivate a sense of awe and wonder, where students understand why the subjects they learn are so important and are keen to learn more. Students also study PSHE to develop their overall character. Our curriculum planning seeks to build on the prior knowledge of students, encourages them to make links and connections between different aspects of their learning and supports them in becoming independent learners. Our curriculum offer also actively addresses the knowledge gaps students may join us with, given the wide range of different starting points our students have and the significantly higher than national rates of disadvantage. We do this by explicit teaching of vocabulary and addressing students’ cultural capital through providing additional reading opportunities.
Our in-lesson curriculum is supplemented by our extra-curricular programme, careers education, assembly programme and Fullhurst Pledge activities (further details can be found by clicking on the links).
Further detail regarding the curriculum covered by individual subjects can be found by visiting faculty pages. If you would like more information about the curriculum at Fullhurst Community College, please contact main reception.
